EECI2011 Conference

October 27, 2011

Last week we attended a conference by Ellis Lab in Brooklyn New York. Ellis Lab is a software company who develops Code Igniter and ExpressionEngine. Codeigniter is a PHP framework and ExpressioneEngine is a commercial Content Management System that we use for many of our clients. More than half of the website we develop for our clients are implemented somehow with software written by Ellis Lab. These products enable us to provide websites with a lower cost, faster turn around, and put the content in the hands of our clients. We love Ellis Labs, and we realized all over again how much we REALLY love ExpressionEngine.

This was Matt's first time in New York, so the first order of business was to experience the food, go to Times Square, and teach him how to hail a cab without looking like a lost child. We are a virtual company so it was great for us to spend some quality time together in 3D and not Skype, chat, phone or email.

We got to meet many other developers and network with other agencies that we have heard of or have communicated with already through email and twitter. Being able to interact face to face with our peers and to sit in on workshops has refreshed us and given us new vision and excited us for what we do everyday and why we do what we do. It also gave us some tools and knowledge to use so that we do those things even better.

One thing we realized again at EECI2011 is that the web industry is ever changing, and it changes fast. You can't learn everything in this industry but we are very intentional about learning what we need to support the core value of helping our clients meet all of their goals.
